PPE Required: Safety boots and gloves
Course Description
This 1-day interactive course teaches participants the essential rigging principles and practices used in rigging symmetrical and non-symmetrical loads.
TOPICS INCLUDE:
How to inspect, select and use slings, hardware and below-the-hook lifting devices
How to determine load weight, centre of gravity and pick points
How to calculate sling tension
Recognizing and staying out of the danger zone and crush points
How to use tag lines and hand signals
Utilizing the Rigging Resource Centre to search legislation and rigging standards
Participant learning is reinforced by conducting practical exercises in load weight and rigging assorted loads.
RIGGING ESSENTIALS COURSE OBJECTIVES
After completing our rigging course participants will understand the following:
The principles and practices for rigging symmetrical loads and non-symmetrical loads — This includes the characteristics of different ropes, slings, and chains; how to inspect hardware for damage; the correct way to load a hook; identifying shackle types and shackle safety; the correct use of eye bolts; and, the maintenance and care of blocks.
The importance of applying these principles and practices at your worksite — Understand your role in the workplace and why it is critical to always follow best practices: to keep yourself and others safe, to comply with legislation, and to avoid damage to equipment and other items.
The need for direct supervision from a competent rigger for any rigging job you don't have enough experience to carry out.
Note: To receive a certification, participants must successfully complete a written exam and achieve a passing mark of at least 80 percent.
