Reasonable Cause Supervisor Training

Identifying, assessing, and approaching an employee who may be under the influence of drugs or alcohol is a tough (but critical) responsibility for any supervisor. It is particularly important in workplaces where the safety of the employee or others could be at risk. With the MHSA reasonable cause supervisor training, you will learn how to watch for the signs of substance use and the appropriate actions to take.

Length: 4 hours (8 am – 12 pm)

Course Description

A workplace that is "Fit for Duty" is the cornerstone of a safe and healthy workplace. Every organization needs supervisors and front-line managers who can appropriately and effectively identify employees who may not be Fit for Duty.

Employee drug and alcohol testing cannot be performed based on a mere hunch. Reasonable Cause Supervisor Training delivers substance awareness, necessary tools, and
practical skills to recognize and appropriately handle employees exhibiting signs of impairment.

This ½-day course will prepare supervisors for determining whether or not reasonable cause exists and what to do when they suspect it. This course exceeds both the Canadian
Model for Providing a Safe Workplace (COAA/Energy Safety Canada) and U.S. Department of Transportation requirements for Supervisor Training.

• Applicable Legislation (Human Rights, Privacy, OH&S)
• Drugs & Their Effects (Alcohol, Cannabis, Illicit Drugs, Medications)
• Recognizing Impairment in the Workplace
• Managing Reasonable Cause Situations
• Reasonable Cause and Post-Incident Testing Protocols
