Alberta OHS Preventive Initiatives
Keeping workers and workplaces healthy and safe is the ultimate goal of the Prevention Initiative for Alberta’s Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) System (the Prevention Initiative). The OHS prevention initiative focuses on reducing common workplace injuries, protecting at-risk workers and identifying higher-risk work situations. In 2019 stakeholders came together to take strategic actions that would have greatest impacts on illness and injury reduction in the workplace.
Three priority areas have been identified through analytical and stakeholder feedback as the following items
Musculoskeletal Disorders (MSD)
Information for the prevention of injuries to muscles, tendons, bones, and nerves from sprains and strains.
Slips, trips & falls
Slips, trips and falls are one of the most frequent injuries at all Alberta work sites. Alberta OHS has created resources that will have focused information for employers, supervisors and workers on identifying and preventing these injuries.
Psychosocial Hazards
Psychosocial hazards can be identified as factors in the design or management of work that increase the risk of work-related stress and can lead to psychological or physical harm.
Use these OHS resources to help create awareness to prevent workplace injuries and illnesses.
